Screening of “Growth Busters, Hooked on Growth”… The Film at the Watertown Library

This film that focuses on the problems of uncontrolled growth will be shown at the Library at 6:45 on Thursday, February 23rd. The showing is sponsored by Watertown Citizens for Environmental Safety and Sustainable Watertown.

The world population has now reached 7 billion humans and there is no slowing of growth in site. The consumption footprint of the current population requires the resources of one and one half planet Earths.

This is not new information, “Limits to Growth” was published in the ‘70s. The thought then was that human ingenuity and technology would allow humans to produce more with less, and that has happened but there are now many more consumers to satisfy. Humans now use up resources at a much faster rate but our resources of the planet are limited. This film is a wake up call, not a solution, but it’s important to know first that we are sick, then we can search for solutions.

The film will start promptly to allow time for discussion of the issues raised following the film. Has more stuff made your life happier? See this film on Feb. 23 at the Library!
