Arsenal Center for the Arts Will Host Two Jazz Series This Fall

Watertown venue will welcome singers performing the American Songbook as well as jazz ensembles.

Two jazz series – one featuring jazz ensembles and another with singers performing the American Songbook – will be coming to the Arsenal Center for the Arts this fall.

The newly named JAZZ at the Arsenal series features a wide variety of jazz styles performed by the best jazz ensembles in the Boston area including some headed up by Berklee’s world-renowned faculty.

Performances will be on Monday nights, and feature the Bruce Gertz Quintet on Sept. 19, Yoron Israel & High Standards on Oct. 17, and the Sisters of Swing on Dec 19. Shows start at 7:30 p.m.

The Arsenal Center for the Arts brings back The American Songbook: The Jazz View after a sold-out series of concerts its first year. Performers will sing favorites such as “At Last,” “I’m in the Mood for Love,” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” over the course of the series.

Concerts will feature the music of Jimmy McHugh (Sept. 10), Harry Warren (Oct. 22) and Frank Loesser (Nov. 19).

The concerts are performed by six of the area’s finest jazz musicians including Donna McElroy, vocals; Larry Monroe, saxophone; Russell Hoffmann, piano; John Repucci, bass; John Ramsay, drums; and Jeff Stout, trumpet.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are held in the intimate Black Box Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal St. Tickets are $20; $18 for students and Arsenal members (plus ticketing fees). For tickets or more information call 617-923-8487 or visit http://www.arsenalarts.org.
