Driver Cited for Hitting Bicyclist, Leaving the Scene of the Accident
A 73-year-old woman struck the bicyclist on Arsenal Street near the Watertown Mall.
Police cited a 73-year-old Watertown woman Friday at 2:17 p.m. after she allegedly struck a bicyclist in a crosswalk on Arsenal Street and left the area.
Witnesses said the driver pulled out of the Watertown Mall and turned right onto Arsenal Street. She then ran into the bicyclist, a 36-year-old woman from Quincy, while she was in the crosswalk near the Watertown Mall, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.
The bicyclist said she had pain in her leg and head, and was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital, Lawn said.
Although the driver left the area, people in the area were alert to get information.
"One witness got the car's license plate and another witness followed the motorist," Lawn said.
Police caught up to the driver near the Hosmer School.
"She said she got out and talked to the bicyclist and said she thought she said she was OK, so she left," Lawn said.
The driver was cited for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and a crosswalk violation, Lawn said.
