"The Patriots wanted Watertown Police hats for their whole staff. I joked, they will probably call and want a hooded sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off for Belichik," Deveau told the Town Council Wednesday night. "Wouldn’t you know they called (Tuesday) and wanted a Watertown Police hooded sweatshirt."

This was not the first request for Watertown Police garb, Deveau said. On April 20, the day after the manhunt ended in Watertown, he got a request from the Boston Bruins for hats to wear during pre-game warmups.

"I got a call from the reception saying 'The Bruins want Watertown Police hats. Isn't that great?'" Deveau said. "I said, 'That is great, but there are no Watertown Police hats.'"

Police got a special rush order of hats from Three Twins Productions, a company on the Eastside of Watertown, which was able to make the hats in time for the skate before the game that started at 12:30 p.m.

The officers involved in the shootout with the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects need time to heal, Deveau said, and one way to help them heal is to be recognized for their deeds.

"The local sporst team really know how to do that," Deveau said.

Watertown Police have appeared and been honored at a couple of Bruins games as well as a number of Red Sox games.
