POLL: Which is the Best Preschool/Day Care in Watertown?
The town boasts dozens of preschools and day care centers, but which one will rise to the top?
Deciding if preschool is the way to go is a big enough decision for parents; then they often have to pick with which one they should entrust their child's care and education.
Watertown has many options, and Patch seeks to find out which is the best in town. You can vote in this week's Best of Patch Readers' Choice poll below. The winner will get boasting rights and a certificate.
More than a dozen preschools and day care centers are in the running:
Stepping Stones Child Care Center
Milestones Child Care Center & Preschool
The Learning Zone Child Centers
Caterpillars to Butterflies Child Care
Watertown Co-Operative Nursery School
Bright Horizons on the Charles
Rosary Academy Learning Center
Little Sprouts Day School Child Education Center
Voting for the Best Preschool/Day Care in Watertown runs until 9 a.m. on Friday, March 9. We will base the winner on votes, as well as the comments. In the event of a tie, the preschool or day care center with the most positive comments will get the prize.
Last week we began this new series, asking who makes the best sandwich. Maximo's Takeout was voted by you as the best, beating out Emilio's.
If your favorite did not make the list, tell us which one it is and why you love it. Add it in the comment section below.

I would recommend Rosary Academy! The school is well-structured and the place is always immaculate. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and well-qualified. My daughter started there in September and it's amazing to see how much she's grown since then!

Rosary Academy is the best around. The hours are great for working parents. My daughter doesn't even want to leave at 5pm! The facility is the nicest I've seen and the curriculum is a nice balance of learning and playing.

We have seen Rosary Academy's pre-school in action since its inception when my children took piano lessons in adjacent rooms years ago. Tucked away off Lexington Ave., up on the hill, we know Rosary continues to do things well in the wonderfully caring tradition of the Dominican SIsters. Parents and kids love it.

My son has been attending Storyville Preschool since he was 2.9, and now he is almost 6 and a student in their kindergarten class. This NAEYC accredited school has given my child a first rate education and prepared him academically and socially for elementary school. The staff has been there a long time and they are dedicated and professional educators who are the best in the field. Storyville is unsurpassed in curriculum and instruction, and we could not be happier! Storyville is the winner in our book, and we couldn't be happier with our choice for our son.

As a single mother, I found Storyville Preschool to be an extremely supportive and nurturing school for my daughter. The teachers made my daughter feel at home while giving her the academic tools she needs to succeed. Thanks to Storyville my daughter was well prepared to enter first grade. Storyville is a leader in education!

Of course, it's Rosary Academy Learning Center. It is outstanding in all the areas of educational standards. Not only is the teaching staff well qualified, they are a group of kind and compassionate individuals with a sincere desire to love and nurture each child in their care. AMStone

I am voting for Rosary Academy Learning Center. My older son went there for two years and my young one is going there now. The stuff is very professional and knowledgeable with very high educational standards. The facility is very well maintained and built with the thought to accommodate young children. The children love it there. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a safe and high quality preschool for his/her children.

Storyville Preschool is top notch. My children went to Storyville and were very well prepared for public school because of the excellent education they received at Storyville. The teachers are professional, well educated and nurturing.
The facility is well maintained and the Director and Assistant Director are the best. I would recommend Storyville to anyone looking for the best preschool in Watertown. They deserve to win.

"Best" is hard to qualify in the preschool realm. Assuming all things are equal in that each child is in a safe, supportive, and clean environment that meets state requirements, "best" is highly subjective. Price, community, location, and philosophy aren't one-size-fits-all factors.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this poll, but it's less a "best in Watertown" and more a "best for MY FAMILY in Watertown" poll. :-)

I would be surprised if any preschool is as good as Storyville. The facilities, curriculum, approaches, professionalism, seriousness, and results are all outstanding. Most of all, the faculty is truly outstanding (the boss factor in any school), for which reason parents should be sure to keep their child in for kindergarten.

I am a retired teacher of Rosary Learning center where I taught for twelve
years. The children are the center of attention at all times. Creativity was upper
most in our minds honoring the difference and bringing out the gifts of each child..
I vote for Rosary.

We looked at 9 preschools in the area before settling on Growing Places. There is a low teacher to student ratio with the smaller kids, a great playground, and a full-sized indoor gym for running around on cold or rainy days. The staff and director are top notch. They were extremely helpful in identifying -- very early on -- some development delays my son had, and even more importantly, helped me advocate for him and navigate Watertown School District's special education system. My son loves going to school and has never once cried or balked at being dropped off. And of course, he is learning there all the time -- not just academics, but how to socialize, how to treat people fairly, and how to take care of himself. The teachers also really appreciate his unique sense of humor. GP is NYSE accredited -- not all preschools are. We love Growing Places.

Four Seasons Pre-School is by far the best Pre-School in Watertown. In fact, I drove all the way from the opposite side of Newton ( driving by the Pre-School on the street that I live on! ) just to attend this school. Both of my children are graduates of the Four Seasons Pre-School, and when they entered Kindergarten they were more than prepared for the curriculum. My youngest daughter who is in Kindergarten now, doesn't understand why the other children in her class are not reading at the same level as she is. I believe it is because of her training at Four Seasons. In addition to the excellent curriculum, Four Seasons Pre-School offers parents and children a home atmosphere and provides a sense of security and love that is often lost in the larger schools. My eight year old still talks about her time at Four Seasons, and is disappointed that she is too old to go back!!

Four Seasons Preschool is fantastic! Our son started in September and loves it -- and so do we! The staff is kind, nurturing, and knowledgable. Ms. Katie, Ms. Krista, and Ms. Cheryl are fantastic and our son truly adores his teacher, Ms. Rachel! We have seen tremendous growth in him since September and Ms. Rachel works tirelessly with the children. Each day he comes home sharing something new that he learned. Ms. Karen and Ms. Tracey are hands on directors -- it is not rare to find one or both of them in the classroom at pick-up time. We have recommended Four Seasons to everyone we know looking for a preschool!

We looked at quite a few pre-schools before choosing Rosary Academy. The facilities and location are great. The area is safe and inviting. The staff is very experienced. Pre-school should be about socializing and learning how to be a respectful participant in a community. Rosary's program doesn't loose sight of these basic principals. The working parents hours and the summer program are the icing on the cake. We love the Rosary and most importantly our kids do too.

The program at Rosary Academy lays the foundation for the development of the whole child while preparing them for their next step of their education.

All four of my children have attended Caterpillars to Butterflies Preschool. It has been the best experience. Not only have they been well prepared for kindergarten, they've had fun too. The wonderful, kind staff have helped all of my children to become excellent readers. I would highly recommend this preschool to anyone and am so satisfied with the choice we made for our children.

Caterpillar to butterfly is by far the best preschool in the Watertown distinct. Own and operated by as a family business and each child is truley treated like a family member. The preschool curriculum truley prepares the children for the next step not only developmentally but socially. Highly recommended!!

I am overwhelmed by the response Caterpillars to butterflies has received. To get almost 400 votes for a preschool with a license for 24 children is really amazing. I am very proud of the program we offer to the children and families. Strong school readiness skills but most importantly tremendous positive social and emotional skills. A kind, dedicated, caring, long term staff with ratios of 1 teacher for 6 children. I am most proud of how happy and engaged our children sre. This is the comment I hear most frequently from new families that are visiting. I am completely humbled by our past students that voted for us. I am casting my vote for Caterpillars to Butterflies and thank everyone else who did.

Watertown Cooperative Nursery School (WCNS) has a wonderful play based curriculum. The fantastic teachers gently and effectively help children blossom into themselves and build a wonderful foundation for lifelong learning. The warm and supportive parent body and family community has become the roots of our Watertown community. The beautiful sun filled facility with timeless toys and tools for learning feels like a second home to us! Our whole family thrived at WCNS!
