Why don't you wake up, and read the article!!! John Donohue is the owner of the restaurant.

Donohue's is a family place, the runners are adults. The children (who's parents are running the real race) run around the block. I said it earlier the race raises money for the Watertown BOYS and GIRLS club!!!!

You just don't get it!!! Have you ever been to Donohue's??? Do you know how many places throughout the area have road races to give money back to the community??? I don't think so!!!!

I am not related to him, but I am a friend and customer. The sanctioned race is run by 850+ ADULTS it is 5K, the children run a free of charge race around the block, and a free T-shirt. Donohue's is a family friendly restaurant offering low calorie meals. You ought to stop by and check the place before you pass judgement.

They are not going after kids, a lot of bars and restaurants do events that benefit the community and charities. So since you obviously live in a cave, you should check out some of these places. Do you go to a place like Patty's in West Newton that runs a race for charity also?

Regardless of Donahue's political affiliation, this is charitable event and the proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club. I'm sure Republicans, Greens, Libertarians, and Unenrolled are welcome to participate and some do.

JD runs a good restaurant. I may not agree with some his votes as a councilor. Some people might not agree with some of the expansions JD has made to his establishment. I certainly don't know enough about any of that to comment. Certainly neighbors have a right to comment on what happens in their neighborhood and business owners also have rights to try and increase their business.

But this is charitable event being sponsored by restaurant that happens to have a liquor license. There are more than a few of those in Watertown. The fact they have a bar or serve alcohol, doesn't mean they aren't family establishments. I used to frequent JD's weekly for dinner on Saturdays. I don't drink alcohol. I went there because the food and service excellent. I haven't been able to do so recently. But I'm sure things are the same.

It sounds like you have some other gripe about JD or the establishment Steve. If that's they case you should come out with it. If it's legitimate we can have that discussion.

But in the meantime this is a great event that raises money for charity. It shouldn't be caught in the middle of any other issue or agenda.

Steven, Donahue's is pub. That means it's Restaurant not just a bar. But that's not the point. What if it was a bar.? It's sponsoring a charitable event. Does it get publicity for doing it? Yes it does. And there isn't a thing wrong with that. It's a legal business. There is nothing illegal about possessing, drinking, or selling alcoholic beverages (so long as you have a license).
I'm as conservative, probably more conservative anyone in Watertown. I don't drink myself. But I'm not about to promote bringing back prohibition.
Donahue's is a legitimate business. JD, although thick as brick when it comes to politics, is business owner who employs people,paying them a decent wage. He has supported various youth activities and sports for years. He's a family man with 4 children of his own. He would no more promote underage drinking than I would ever vote for Democrat in a partisan election.

Steven, there is nothing wrong with corporate sponsorship of a charitable event. It's a win win situation.
