So, What's Up with the Traffic on Galen Street?
Roadwork on Charles Bank Road has traffic piling up in Watertown.
If it seems like on Galen Street from the Mass Pike to Watertown Square has gotten worse, you are right ... and you will have to live with it a for a few more weeks.
Roadwork in Newton has caused the back up in town, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.
"They are replacing a gas main on Charles Bank Road in Newton," Lawn said, referring to the road the connects the Exit 17 rotary to Nonatnum Road, near the Daly Ice Rink. "That is the cause of the traffic."
Watertown Police have assigned two officers to direct traffic on Galen Street and intersecting roads, Lawn said.
The project will go on for at least a couple more weeks, Lawn said.
"It is scheduled to be done by June 16, but we have heard it may be delayed a week or two," Lawn said.

Thanks for letting us know! I've been wondering what the heck has been going on. Getting here in the morning isn't so bad... but the commute home through Watertown has been simply horrible!!

I took an alternate route yesterday from Newton Corner to Watertown: Pearl St. and California St. Still go through the square, but avoided Galen St. all together. Get out the map (or GPS) and check out other routes for a while if you usually take Galen St.
