[Updated] Special State Senate Election Today in Watertown [Poll]

Four Democrats seek to replace Steven Tolman in the Second Suffolk and Middlesex state senate. Vote today!

Voters have been trickling in to Watertown polling stations today to select the town's next state senator. Polls are open until 8 p.m.

The Special Primary Election features four Democrats seeking to repace Steven Tolman, who left the Senate to become the president of the AFL-CIO of Massachusetts union.

The candidates are Watertown State Rep. , former state firefighters union president of Watertown, Belmont State Rep. and Brighton attorney .

According to Belmont Town Clerk Ellen Cushman, 2,858 voters, or about 17 percent of the 16,000 registered voters, had cast ballots in Belmont's eight precincts in the Special State Senate primary election by 3 p.m. Cushman projects a 24 percent turnout, .

In the Back Bay, only 44 people had turned out to vote as of 2:30 p.m., .

As of 10:30 a.m., 111 ballots had been cast at Precinct 10 at the Watertown Police Station. At 10:45 a.m., 84 voters had filled out their ballot at Precinct 6 at Hibernian Hall. Poll workers at Precinct 10 said the turnout is similar to the special election which John Lawn won to become the 10th Middlesex state representative.

The district includes all of Watertown and Belmont, as well as parts of Cambridge and Boston — including Brighton, Allston, the Fenway and the Back Bay.
