Summer Basketball League Finals Tied Up

Direct Tire and Auto defeated Made Men to set up a winner take all game for the title.

The following information was provided by the Watertown Recreation Department:

“Not so soon” says Direct Tire and Auto. As Made Men was gearing up for another Papas Elite Championship, player coach-general manager Mark Giovino said “not today” and had his team play inspired ball from the get go to easily defeat Made Men by the score of 69-48 in game two of the best of three.

From the get go, Direct Tire and Auto was a different team from the one they were in game one. They pounded the ball the inside and were rewarded by Seth Hauben (Rochester University '04) who posted 14 first half points and doubled Lew Finnegan (Bentley University) each time he touched ball. This tactic propelled Direct Tire to a 31-16 half time lead which they never relinquished.

In addition to Hauben, who finished the game with 16 points for Direct Tire and Auto, the victors received an impressive performance by Dave Gratton (Mid Continent), who was game high scorer with 20 points and former Trinity College standout Rob Taylor who finished the game with 17.

Even with the extra attention and the double teaming, Finnegan was able to score 20 points, while teammate Tim Henneberry (Framingham State) contributed 13 points for the cause. Made Men also were hampered by the loss of Brandon Stephens who sprained his ACL in game one.

The final game of the 2012 Papas Elite season will be on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. at Saltonstall Park in Watertown.  Please join us as it should be an outstanding final match up.
