Final Bricks Being Laid at Watertown's Victory Field

Workers installed the bricks walkway at Victory Field, which includes the commemorative ones bought by local residents and groups.

A field of bricks went into the entry plaza at Victory Field this week, featuring the commemorative bricks bought by Watertown residents, teams and groups.

The bricks were sold as a way to help pay for the $2.7 million renovation of the field, which included a new artificial turf field, new lights and a new entryway.

Workers from Watertown Landscaping laid the bricks Wednesday and Thursday. People wanting to buy a brick inscribed with their name, their team or some other message can still do so, said Emilio Ruano, one of the crew from Watertown Landscaping.

"People can put their brick where ever they want. We just take it out and put a new one in," Ruano said. "That's how it's designed to work."

A dedication ceremony and official unveiling of the bricks will be held Sept. 9, said Recreation Director Peter Centola.
