We pass them almost every day, often without knowing that they even exist, much less what they commemorate or celebrate. But there's a reason these grand and elemental stones and bronze plaques exist.

The marker for Benjamin Curtis was one of many stolen by thieves stealing brass, copper and other metal markers. There was a man stealing a marker in Belmont (I think) that caught on video but I do not know if they know the vandal or if they caught him. Now they are stealing cemetery markers from veterans' graves. Retired Veterans' Officer Bob Erickson is always checking the cemeteries but probably could use extra eyes to keep a vigilant watch. Other Watertown markers are missing. As you walk around town, see if you can find where they were - some markers they tried to steal but did not quite get. :-)

Thanks, History Devotee. I wonder if Mount Auburn Cemetery has had to increase their security budget. And watch your copper gutters if you go on vacation, I guess....
