Wanted: Grant Applications for 'A Healthy Watertown'

The Watertown Community Foundation is accepting grant applications through Nov. 4.

The following is information from a press release from the Watertown Community Foundation.

The Watertown Community Foundation (WCF) is now accepting applications for its health-related grants program, “A Healthy Watertown.” This program is designed to help organizations that serve Watertown develop new or continue existing programs with a health focus. Eligible organizations may apply for grants up to $2,500. A total of $15,000 in funding will be awarded. The
application deadline is Nov. 4, 2011. For an application form, contact Michael Schade, WCF Executive Director, at mschade@watertownfoundation.org or 617-926-1500.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the “A Healthy Watertown” Grants Program, organizations must be public entities or nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status that:

• Serve Watertown,
• Provide a health program or service to the community,
• Demonstrate fiscal need.

Examples of Projects/Activities

Examples of activities and projects that may be funded include, but are not limited to:

• Food pantry programs or equipment needs
• Adolescent education about alcohol/substance abuse
• Programs/services fostering healthy aging
• Support programs for care-givers
• Nutrition and/or meals programs for seniors
• Programs combating youth obesity
• Programs designed to help substance abusers become or remain “clean”
• Health-related programs for infants and their families
• Supplies/tools for community gardens
• Support for health programs

WCF’s “A Healthy Watertown” Grant Program is funded by the Tufts Health Plan Foundation.

The Watertown Community Foundation, founded in 2003, works to build and sustain a vibrant, close-knit community in Watertown – now, and for future generations. To accomplish this, WCF raises funds from people and partner institutions, awards grants to non-profits and community projects, and builds
networks of donors, grantees, program participants and stakeholders.

WCF and its grantees are consistent leaders in efforts to:

• Advance education and health,
• Support the most vulnerable,
• Protect the environment,
• Foster community engagement and leadership.

In its short existence, WCF has awarded over $250,000 in grants. Persons interested in supporting WCF should contact Michael Schade, Executive Director.
