Watertown Patch Athlete of the Year: C.J. Logan

Senior quarterback C.J. Logan helped put make the Raiders a winning program again.

He was the centerpiece of the offense and a main reason why the trend is heading north for the Watertown football program, and now he can call himself "Athlete of the Year" in Watertown.

C.J. Logan is the recipient of the first ever "Athlete of the Year" award handed out by Watertown Patch. The senior led the Raiders to a 7-4 record, just one win shy of Watertown's first 8-win season since 1983, and he accounted for 26 touchdowns (15 through the air, and 11 on the ground).

Logan now has to decide where he is going to play his college football, and right now the inside track is with Bentley University. Logan has a verbal commitment with the school, but he is still keeping his options open in case something else pops up.

The talented quarterback will have to possibly change positions in his first couple years at Bentley, and he believes he has enough athletic ability to take on any challenge that is put in his way.

"I don't know what would happen after that, but they could some Wildcat with me," Logan said. "I'd really do whatever. Whatever helps me or the team succeed."

Logan began playing football since, well, since he began walking, he said. He picked up the sport at the organized level at a very young age in the Watertown Pop Warner, and in his last season in Pop Warner he played for a Mission Hill team that came one win from going to the Nationals in Florida.

Those lessons he learned at the Pop Warner level are part of the reasons why he believes he is so successful now.

"You might be more athletic than someone but if you can outsmart somebody then you can be successful," he said. "I don't consider myself one of the fastest or strongest kids on the field, but I've playing the game for 10 years and I just got better as I played."

Whatever Logan has done in life, whether it is football or in the classroom, he said he has succeeded because of hard work.

"When I stick with things and I put in the effort I get good results," said Logan. "I just have to be myself and stay focused. I don't ever want to get lazy or get to satisfied. I've always got to be fighting and striving for something better."

A main reason why he initially thinks Bentley will be the spot will be because of the business prowess that the school has. He childhood dream is to play in the NFL, but his other dreams are to work as a sports agent or in sports marketing for a professional team.

"Business-wise they are known internationally," Logan said about Bentley. "They have so many connections and if you go there you are going to meet some of the smartest business people in maybe the world."

On the field, Logan is hungry to get stronger and increase his speed to be better on the next level. It's that fight and hunger that will help him get better on and off the field, and it's those same qualities why Logan is the first-ever Watertown Patch Athlete of the Year.
