I hadn’t run over 13 miles for my whole training (20 miles is the ideal training run before a marathon). My confidence was low and I needed some good news. Two things happened to me that would make me keep my composure. I had a wonderful session with my sports massage therapist. She found an adhesion that may have been causing my discomfort in my hip. In January, I learned that I was going to be given an opportunity to run in the 2011 Boston Marathon. I was apprehensive to do so given my struggles with a lingering hip injury. It seemed like every time I went over 7 miles of running I got injured, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to run in the Boston Marathon. Forty Watertown residents will run the 115th Boston Marathon Monday: 23 men and 17 women. All are Americans, except one British citizen, Kath Hardcastle. The 115th Boston Marathon may not wind through Watertown Monday, but street closings may impact your day, whether you are going to watch on Heartbreak Hill, heading to Fenway to catch the Red Sox or just trying to run an errand. The runners will wind their way along the Marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston, through nearby Wellesley, Newton and Brookline. Perkins School for the Blind announced one of the Boston Marathon runners raising money for the school is from Watertown: On April 18, Watertown resident Kelly Cote will endure 26.2 miles of sore feet and aching muscles for a good cause. She’ll run the Boston Marathon to raise money for Perkins School for the Blind. Cote is one of 19 runners on the Perkins charity team who will pound the pavement from Hopkinton to Boston to raise over $100,000 for people who are blind or visually impaired. Why She is Running: Dempsey runs with the New England Organ Bank’s Donate Life New England Marathon Team. For the last few years she has run for her friend Laura Linehan, who died at the age of 20. “I run in honor of a friend who died waiting for a liver transplant,” Dempsey said. “She passed away in 2008 just two weeks before the Marathon.” Dempsey now works with the New England Organ Bank, which is based in Waltham.
