Watertown Police officers had an extra duty this week – acting as some of Santa's helpers. The police collected hundred of toys and thousands of dollars to help families in need, mostly in Watertown. The program began 23 years ago, under the leadership of former-Watertown Police Sgt. John "Sonny" Whooley, said Detective Dave Collins, who now oversees the program. "Sonny Whooley inspired a lot of people to do a lot of great things," Collins said, noting that Whooley served in the department for more than 30 years. Watertown is alive with holiday performances, with concerts and plays at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, the St. Patrick's Church choir and performances at the Watertown Mall. The St. Patrick's Choirs present "The Songs of Christmas," on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. This concert features Christmas favorites performed by the Adult and Children's Choirs of St. Patrick Church, 212 Main St., under the direction of Paul White.
