Name: George Crowley Grade: 11 Activities: Plays football, ice hockey and baseball. What Makes George so Awesome?: Crowley received all-league accolades for his play as linebacker and tight end on the football team at The Rivers School in Weston. This winter he made the all-Independent School League team for playing defenseman for the Rivers ice hockey team. This spring he is playing baseball, where he had spent some time on the mound as a pitcher, but growing up he always played catcher. Crowley has attended Rivers since he was in sixth grade. Name: Ario Nour Age: 7 Activities: Mentors young cancer patients and enjoys playing soccer with friends. What Makes Ario so Awesome?: Ario was diagnosed with brain tumor last summer, and had 10 hours of brain surgery in July. Through all this he managed to continue with radiation therapy and returned to school last fall. When he first returned to school, Ario was going to class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Now, his parents – Zohreh Firouzabdian and Naveed Nour – say he has managed to stay from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and even plays soccer with friends after school some days. Name: Fitch and Wilder Perkins School: The Atrium School Grade: Fitch - first, Wilder - third Activities: Spelling Bees What Makes the Perkins Brothers so Awesome?: Atrium School first-grader Fitch Perkins took top spot in his grade level at the Newton Community Pride fourth annual Spelling Bee on March 7. His winning word was "abide." His brother Wilder also took first-place in the third grade division on March 9. Name: Christine Rono's class. Grade: Second School: Cunniff Activities: Art and writing. What Makes the Class so Awesome?: The class created imaginary animals inspired by Oaxacan woodcarvings from Mexico, said Cunniff art teacher Jessica Gillooly. "They then wrote amazing stories about these animals with Mrs. Rono," Gillooly said. "It was a great cross-curricular project!"
