Creative Writing at Minuteman

If you have a son or daughter who will be entering grades 5 or 6 next year and enjoys writing, this is the class for your family!

This course is an exercise in the art of creative writing, through a book writing adventure. Students will increase their knowledge and understanding of various writing tools: point of view, character development, details (describe, don't tell), mood, plot sequence and development, dialogue, theme resolution, and a celebration of their own unique writing style. Students write drafts, peer edit, and workshop chapters in their own book about any subject of their choosing.  They set time, place, character(s), etc. Students are encouraged not to limit themselves, but to let their imagination run wild and be open to change their chapter book at any point. They name their chapters, add a table of contents, construct visual representations, and bind their book attractively. On the final day, students present to the class in a "book signing" session.

Classes run July 7 - August 1, 8:30 - 11:30 am or 12:00 - 3:00 pm.
