Are you experiencing more airplane noise since Logan Airport changed its departing routes?

You’re not alone.

Residents in Arlington, Waltham, Winchester, Belmont and Watertown have been impacted the most by the new routes, which were altered because of a new satellite-guided system.

On Friday, the City of Medford posted a “How To” on filing a complaint.

Here are some options:

  • You can complete Massport’s online form (first-time users must register prior to submitting).
  • You can call Massport’s Noise Complaint Line, 617-561-3333. The line is staffed by Massport’s Noise Abatement Office from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on business days (on off hours, you can leave a message).
  • Check Massport’s Noise FAQs for more information.

After you file a complaint, you should hear back within 3-4 weeks.

Tracking Flights

Massport has a near live flight tracker called Flight Monitor. This tool can help residents identify flights that are impacting their neighborhood.

Noise pollution is no joke and can adversely affect physical and emotional health no matter what your age is, especially if the noise is where you live. I have read that the teenage years are when we are most sensitive to noise, especially certain pitches in the higher ranges. I am not a doctor. I endured intolerable noise level in my own home and even got a doctor's note to try to appeal to my landlord to reduce the noise. My health was seriously declining. No one would do anything, and I was in despair because I was really declining. My friend, who is a landlord herself, came in, heard the noise, and told me I had material for a lawsuit.
