Deadline to Submit Photos for Watertown Lockdown Calendar is Monday!

The Watertown Police Foundation is looking for photos to put in a calendar recalling the Manhunt for the Boston Marathon Bombers.

From the Watertown Police Foundation:

Almost everyone in Watertown can tell you where they were the night of April 19th, 2013 when the entire world was focused on the town and all the residents were locked inside our homes, surrounded by police searching for the guys who exploded bombs at the Boston Marathon a few days earlier. Many residents of Watertown have photos of how the town celebrated the successful end of that manhunt. “That’s what we’re hoping for in creating the 2014 Watertown Police Foundation calendar”, says Steve Messina, a Board member of the Foundation. “And, that’s why we are asking residents to send us their photos from the many events around town that celebrated who we are as a community and how proud we are of our first responders”, he adds.

Just as the now well-known Watertown Strong police T-shirt has raised almost $100,000 for various Watertown Police projects – everything from projects for the Watertown Boys and Girls Club, the Middle School chorus, new flags for the Watertown Police Honor Guard – the calendar is intended to continue to raise funds for worthwhile projects that support the work of the Watertown Police. Organizers are looking for memorable images, photos that highlight the incredible valor of the police and support of the Watertown community.

Says Messina, who conceived the calendar project with Tom Miller of T.R. Miller Co., Inc. “You know what they say about a photo being worth 1,000 words. In this case, we think there may be many photos worth many thousands of
words that will combine to make a true keepsake calendar.” The photos from that night in April and the days that followed certainly captured the many signs of gratitude everywhere in town, expressions of overwhelming respect for our police and first responders. This calendar is meant to share those moments and memories not only with local residents but with people around the world who shared those moments with Watertown.

Residents of Watertown are asked to submit photos they would like to have considered for inclusion in the calendar, to www.watertownpolicefoundation.org. Online submissions only please. The deadline is September 30th.

The entire project is being sponsored by Watertown Savings Bank, which means that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the calendars will go to the Watertown Police Foundation to fund projects that support the Watertown Police in some way.

Once they are created and produced, the calendars will be available for sale at stores throughout Watertown. Pre-orders are being taken online through www.watertownpolicefoundation.org.
