Eliza Dushku to be Honored for Creating Summer Camp for Girls

Dushku will be honored for her work at an event at Fenway Park.

The American Camp Association, New England will honor Watertown-native and Hollywood star Eliza Dushku during its third annual Camp Champions Celebration at Fenway Park.

Dushku, who starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" will be presented with the 2013 Camp Champions Award for her work developing a program for girls at Camp Hale in New Hampshire where girls/young women from the Boston area can experience first-hand how life-changing camp can be.

“It is such an honor to be chosen as the 2013 Camp Champion by the American Camp Association, New England," Dushku said. "Camp has been such an important part of life for everyone in my family for as long as I can remember -- for my parents, my siblings and myself. This opportunity to work with others to highlight the importance of Camp experiences for all kids, boys and girls -- is just extraordinary."

The event will be at the State Street Pavilion at Fenway Park on Nov. 22.

More than 150 children got the chance to attend day and overnight camps in all six New England states thanks to last year’s Camp Champions Celebration.

The evening kicks off at 7 pm and includes hors d’oeuvres, Fenway Park tours (beginning at 6 p.m.), a dinner buffet overlooking the field, a raffle and silent auction, photo ops with Red Sox mascot Wally.

The Camp Champions Celebration is open to the public. Adult tickets are $150; children 12 and under are $75. Event details including ticket sales, sponsorship, and donation information can be found at www.acanewengland.org/camp-champions.
