The Watertown Winter Parking Ban is Coming - See When it Starts

The overnight parking ban begins after Thanksgiving.

Watertown's winter parking ban will start after Thanksgiving this year.

Watertown Chief of Police Edward P. Deveau announced the 2013-2014 overnight parking restrictions begin at midnight on Dec. 2, 2013, and continues to April 1, 2014.

"Please remember to remove your vehicle from the public way Sunday night December 1st, so that you will not receive a ticket Monday morning December 2nd," Deveau said.

The regulation reads in part; “No vehicle may remain on any public way for more than one hour between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. all days of the week."

Keeping cars off the roads allows the Department of Public Works to clear snow from the roads and sidewalks. They can also do routine road maintenance.

If you don't have enough off-street parking for all your vehicles, the town allows for temporary parking at any municipal parking lot and other locations noted:

• The police station at 552 Main Street
• Any public school parking lot
• Marion Road at Victory Field
• The lot at Boylston Street and Mt Auburn Streets

These locations may be used free of charge, however all vehicles may
use available spaces after 7 p.m. and must be moved/removed by 7 a.m. the following day.

Those parked on school property must be removed no later than 6 a.m. during any snow storm to allow for plowing. Violators may be towed.

Deveau also reminds residents they should remember that parking your vehicle upon any sidewalk is prohibited.
