Why are There Plastic Bags on Some Watertown Fire Hydrants?
Don't worry, the hydrants still work.
If you see a plastic bag over your nearest fire hydrant, don't worry, it's not out of order.
The Watertown Department of Public Works is conducting testing of the underground water system. In order to do the leak detection survey, electronic devices are attached to fire hydrants and water gate locations, according to an announcement by the DPW.
The monitoring will not have any impact on residential or business water service or interfere with the Fire Department's work.
