World Series Trophy Visits School in Watertown

The Red Sox 2013 trophy came to the Boston Jewish Community Day School on Stanley Avenue.

Students at the Boston Jewish Community Day School in Watertown got a special treat Wednesday when they got to see the Boston Red Sox latest World Series trophy in person.

The trophy made the stop on its tour of New England. Fenway Ambassador Ross Yellin, who accompanies the trophy, said a parent at the school requested the visit.

"We get tons of requests, and we give preference to schools and non-profits," Yellin said.

Head of School Susie Tanchel got a call out of the blue last week about the trophy.

"The Red Sox Foundation called to say they would like to bring it to the school," Tanchel said. "I said we would be thrilled and excited."

The children also went wild when they heard the news, said Emma Sandler, associate director of communication for JCDS. The school posted a video of the fourth grade class hearing the news, which can be seen by clicking here. JCDS students learn Hebrew as well as English, and most of it is in Hebrew, until the announcement.

The trophy came to JCDS for two hours Wednesday morning. Each class got a chance to see it up close and pose for photos. Even the school staff snapped photos of each other.

Wednesday, the trophy will make three visits, and nine on Thursday, Yellin said. It has been on tour around New England since the Red Sox won the Series. In 2004 the trophy went to every town in Massachusetts, he added.
