Starbucks Proposed for Waltham (Again)

Starbucks could be coming to Waltham.

For the third time since 2003, Starbucks has proposed opening its first location in Waltham, according to Traffic Commission documents.

The Commission is scheduled to discuss traffic impacts from the Starbucks during its Wednesday, Dec. 19 meeting at 10 a.m. at City Hall.

The Starbucks would be located inside the proposed shopping complex at the old Polaroid side at 1265 Main St., according to Commission documents. A bank, yet to be named, has also been proposed for the site. Both merchants would include drive-thru windows.

Under city regulations, the City Council would have to approve a fast food permit and a separate drive-thru permit for Starbucks. The bank would also require a drive-thru permit.

SPC Main Street LLC is named as the developer, according to Commission documents.

The proposal comes months after a developer cancelled his plans for a Starbucks at the corner of Lexington Street and Trapelo Road.

The new Starbucks would sit about 800 feet back from Main Street. The 3,500 square foot bank would abutt the coffee shop.

According to Traffic Commission documents, neither the Starbucks nor the bank would impact traffic on Main Street, City Traffic Engineer J. Michael Garvin wrote in a memo to the Traffic Commission. Both potential tenants would not impact a previously submitted traffic study, Garvin wrote. However, the Commission documents don't reveal secifics on the prior study.

How about Cabela's? It'd be nice to have a Bass Pro alternative...

I strongly believe that Waltham needs a Starbucks! We have way too many Dunkin Donuts in Waltham. I travel everyday out of the city of Waltham to go to a nearby city that has a Starbucks. I work and live in Waltham. Please reconsider this.

Brian, I'd take either. Since The Bait Bucket closed the closets place to get any fishing tackle is the Natick Outdoor Store. Would be nice to have someplace close to Waltham. Robert
