Watertown's Athenahealth Acquires a Boston Firm

The company headquartered in the Arsenal by the Charles reportedly acquired Health Data Services last week.

Watertown-based athenahealth Inc. announced it has acquired Health Data Services of Boston last week. 

The company announced the agreement to acquire the firm specializing in web-based solutions and health care data analysis on Sept. 13. Financial details have not been released. 

"With HDS, we can help health care organizations to thrive in the face of change-to drive down costs through smart, high quality care coordination and to understand the totality of services being provided," said Jonathan Bush, CEO and chairman of athenahealth in a statement. "This acquisition supports our existing efforts to create an information backbone that makes health care work as it should."

Athenahealth provides cloud-based solutions for physician practices and electronic health records and care coordination services. It was founded in 1997 and has a total of 2,060 employees with offices in Maine, Georgia, Alabama and India.
