Track record and looking forward

Hi -- This is Susan Falkoff. I've been honored to serve you as Town Councilor-at-Large for 4 terms. I came to Watertown 40 years ago to raise a family. As a parent, citizen and a Councilor I've worked for decades with my neighbors and our government to make Watertown an even better place to live, raise a family, and educate our children.

As your Town Councilor, I have a track record of listening to all perspectives. I know from experience that if we work together, we can offer our children the education they need and deserve. As a community activist and your representative, I'm glad people are asking important questions about our schools. We need new ideas and approaches. We need to upgrade our facilities for the 21st century. Like you, I want a school system with excellent teachers and children who are educated in music, the arts, sports, critical thinking, good citizenship, global awareness, and sensitivity to others; in addition to reading and math skills. As your Councilor, I will use my influence to make that happen.

For me, it all started with the Arsenal which was owned by the US Army, surrounded by barbed wire and designated a toxic hazard. I led the advocacy to make it a safe place and now we have the Arts Center and a vibrant business district that all are free to enjoy. I was an early member of the peace, justice and environmental organization which is still in existence and has grown. I served on the Conservation Commission and consistently held the line with developers that wanted to encroach on the river. I was outspoken on the Council in favor of a Comprehensive Plan with broad community input and I was the only councilor to oppose pursuing a new cellular antenna at Victory Field.

I ask for your vote on Tuesday, November 5 for Councilor-at-Large. You can read more about me at susanfalkoff.com and contact me with your questions and concerns at susanfalkoff@gmail.com.
