Mega Millions Ticket Sold in Watertown Nearly Won the Jackpot

A ticket purchased in town got five of six numbers in drawing for the record jackpot.

A lottery ticket sold at Handy Variety on Common Street in Watertown nearly hit it big in Friday's Mega Millions drawing.

The ticket got five of six numbers correct, according to a report in the Boston Globe. It was one of five tickets sold in Massachusetts that got all but one of the numbers. Three tickets with all six numbers were sold in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.

Although the players did not get a share of the $640 million jackpot, they will collect $250,000, according to lottery officials.

In Massachusetts, $39 million in lottery tickets were sold, which will provide $16.4 million to towns and cities, according to an Associated Press story in the Boston Herald.
