The fiscal cliff was avoided, and we survived the Mayan apocolypse but 2013 will surly have its share of challenges. What is the biggest issue in Watertown for you this year?
What will they be? Well, some that appear to be coming down the road include the town budget, development and potential renovation projects.
The Budget: The town's finances will likely be a challenging one, as the economy has not bounced back as fast as state officials anticipated. Gov. Patrick already made a mid-year cut. Where will the limited dollars go, or if things get worse, where will they be cut from?
Development: Over the past couple years new housing complexes have been built, or approved around town - particularly on the Westside of town. The Waltham Street apartments have been approved, and now there are others going in front of the town's Planning and Zoning boards, including a 14-unit building on Pleasant Street. Is this the right kind of development for Watertown?
School Modernization Projects: School and town officials say it may be time to think about renovating the schools again. . Do the schools need upgrades?
Something Else?: Perhaps the issue of the year will be something that is sitting in the background. Can you think of any?
