This is the time of year when we prepare for pumpkins, apple picking, glorious foliage and creepy, haunting ghosts and goblins that come with the Harvest Moon.  This fall, fabulous moans of a different kind of ghoul will be coming to the First Baptist Church of Winchester at the corner of Mount Vernon and Washington Streets.  The Church in conjunction with Music Is Art Agency will be presenting its first HARVEST CONCERT SERIES.  “A Night of Terror & Opera Horrors!” is being presented on Friday, October 12th at 8:00 pm.  This production is boasting some of Boston’s finest voices.  The night’s Halloween spirit will be brought to life with popular operatic arias and scenes such as: Pagliacci’s famous clown emoting in “Vesti la giubbe”, the evil Queen of the Night from The Magic Flute, charming mockery from Die Fledermaus, and a visit from the witch with Hansel and Gretel.  As a special treat with no trick, Principal Artist of New York City’s Metropolitan Opera, Claudia Waite, will cast her vocal spell singing her signature aria as Turandot and performing in a ghostly scene from Britten’s, The Turn of the Screw.  The audience is invited to dress in their Halloween finest and join in the magical fun. 

 “A Night of Terror & Opera Horrors!” will debut the series followed by “Swing Time and Smooth Jazz” featuring well-known jazz artists, the G Hick’s Quartet with guest vocalist, Barbara Morash, on Saturday, November 3rd at 8:00 pm.  Music from the Big Band Era” In the Mood”, “A Train”, and “Opus One” are mixed with romantic classics, “The Nearness of You”, “Stardust” and “You Go To My Head” along for a full night of dancing, dreaming and reminiscing. 

Headlining the finale of the series on Friday, December 7th at 8:00 pm is NBC’s 2011 The Sing Off finalists North Shore, the lovable, charming a cappella group who became a national favorite.  Dubbed “The Grandfathers of Doo Wop” these endearing fellows present an upbeat, joyful night of song with pitch perfect perfection!  The harmonies glide easily over the melodies and their winning personalities are a complete delight.  They will be joined by the boys of “Swing Town”, an energetic a cappella group with more than 20 singers from the St. John’s Preparatory High School conducted by Jay Pawlyk.  Opening for these ‘men’ will be four, fabulous females, “The Unforgettabelles”, who perform with The Liberty Belle Chorus of the Sweet Adelines.  The music will be plentiful and the entire night a pleasure. 

First Baptist Church is presenting these exciting concerts as a fundraiser to help defray the costs of burdensome building repairs.  The church has been a prominent town landmark for many a decade.  The beauty of the building enhances the landscape of Winchester helping to establish the beloved ‘New England signature look.

The Harvest Concert Series offers the community the opportunity to experience a variety of outstanding musical concerts of the highest quality without having to travel to New York or Boston.
