Let's Talk About Food

On Saturday, Oct. 5, celebrity chefs, farmers, writers, and anyone with a passion for food will gather in Copley Square for the 2013 Let’s Talk About Food Festival, the region’s largest public food festival and outdoor seminar.   Presented by Whole Foods Market, the free festival will celebrate and explore all aspects of the food system. 

From food labeling to food allergies, food science to farming, fishing and cooking, the festival aims to engage the public in participatory and meaningful conversations about all aspects of the food system.  This fun and family-friendly event will offer a series of talks and demonstrations along with interactive activities, designed to engage and educate people.

One highlight of the event is Men and Women in Blue, a cook-off between first responders from Boston, Watertown and Cambridge.  After winning preliminary heats, Boston EMS, Watertown Fire and Cambridge Police will be paired with local chefs to determine who claims the title of best chef among first responders.  Men and Women in Blue will being at 4:45 p.m. 

Other highlights of the event will:
• Presentations featuring local chefs, nutritionists, scientists and others exploring topics such as Better School Food, Cooking for Geeks, Seafood Sustainability and much more.  Main stage presentations begin at 10:30 a.m. and run through 6:00 p.m.
• A Fresh Approach to Hunger.  Curated by Project Bread, this all day event will showcase local non-profit organizations offering innovative approaches to ending hunger
• The Endless Table, where festival attendees talk with food experts about the food system, including how food affects the body, economy and planet. 
• The Edible Garden - a hands-on container garden that lets adults and children “get their hands dirty” and learn about planting and tasting edible gardens.
• Ask a Chef - get all the answers to cooking questions from a revolving roster of chefs
• Ask-a-Nutritionist – get the answers to healthy eating and nutrition questions
