Best Apple Pie? - See Who Won the Faire on the Square Baking Contest

The judges have eaten, and picked their favorite pies entered in Watertown's annual baking contest.

The following information was provided by the Faire on the Square organizers:

You may ask, what happened at this year’s annual Faire on the Square Best Apple Pie Baker Contest? Well, here is the big wooden spoon scoop …

The contest was held Saturday, September 22nd in the Town Hall. The event was graciously hosted by Ms. Irene Frain and Ms. Ingrid Marchesano. The esteemed judges were: Veterans Randy Kenny; Dominic Rice and a resident judge.

Nine bakers entered this year’s contest with their prized-recipe apple pies. Some pies arrived to the event hot – just out of the oven. The bakers names were not included on the pies to insure impartiality of the judges.

The pies were judged by two categories: appearance and, of course, taste

The apple of the judges’ eye were:

  • First prize winner: Jamie Mobed
  • Second prize winner: Molly Richmond
  • Third prize winner: Student residents of Tompkins Cottage, Perkins School for the Blind c/o Kathleen Power.  (The students baked Friday evening; their pie took top honors for most creative presentation)

First, second and third prizes were awarded to top bakers; participants and spectators shared samples of the pies at the conclusion of the competition. All entrants went home with a new hot mitt for their creative efforts.Well done bakers! And, see you next year at the Faire.
