Bank Relay for Life Team Gearing up for 10th Anniversary

Watertown Savings Bank's Relay for Life Team has begun planning its fundraising efforts for the 2013 Watertown/Waltham Relay for Life event, benefitting the American Cancer Society.

At a recent kick-off event for the 2013 Watertown/Waltham Relay for Life, Watertown Savings Bank’s (WSB) 2012 Relay for Life Team earned an Emerald Award for their outstanding fundraising efforts in support of the American Cancer Society (ACS). They raised $30,224 for the 2012 Relay.  (Overall the 2012 Watertown/Waltham Relay raised $91,210 to save lives and continue the fight against cancer).

This year’s Relay for Life event will be held Friday and Saturday, June 21-22 at Victory Field in Watertown. WSB Relay team co-captains Lisa Nichols and Antonia O’Hara have already begun planning.

“2013 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Watertown/Waltham Relay and they are looking to make this a memorable year,” said Nichols. “We are excited about our team and what we will achieve this year fundraising for this wonderful cause.”

The WSB team is the top fundraising team from Watertown/Waltham, and one of the most successful fundraising teams in New England. They will host their third annual fundraising gala on Friday, May 10 at the Hellenic Cultural Center in Watertown.  There will be dinner, dancing, and plenty of opportunities to win great prizes.  Last year this event raised $14,000. Other WSB team fundraisers throughout the year are also being planned.

In the past five years, more than 70 WSB employees, their family, and friends have raised nearly $90,000 for the Watertown/Waltham Relay. The Watertown/Waltham Relay for Life Event is always looking for more teams.
