Man Arrested for Kidnapping Woman off the Street in Watertown

Man allegeldly grabbed the mother of his child, forced her in the car and fled the area.

A Dorchester man faces a kidnapping charge among the slew of charges he faces after an incident in Watertown late on the night of Dec. 2.

At about 11:37 p.m. police were dispatched to Patten Street where they had received a 911 call from a cell phone in which the line remained connected, but no one was speaking, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

"When the officer arrived she saw a vehicle coming toward her at a high rate of speed. The vehicle swerved toward the police car honking the horn, swerved away and fled at a high rate of speed," Lawn said.

The officer spoke to a neighbor who heard a woman yell "no" and came out and saw a vehicle take off from the area, Lawn said.

The cell phone was tracked to a driveway on Hovey Street in Newton. Police spoke with the woman inside, who said the man - who is the father of her child - came to her work in Watertown unexpectedly with their child and demanded that she get in the car.

"She refused and he chased her, grabbed her, forced her into the motor vehicle, and fled the scene," Lawn said.

Keith Lashone Herring, 24, of 80 Draper St. Apt. 1 in Dorchester, was arrested on charges of kidnapping, reckless behavior creating a risk of bodily injury to a child, reckless driving, assault and battery, speeding, and driving with a child under 5 without a carseat, Lawn said.
