Man Assaulted on Street, Suspect Tried to Escape into Miller's Ale House

The suspect did not go quietly, either.

Watertown Police arrested a man who allegedly punched a man on the street. He unsuccessfully tried to hide in Miller's Ale House.

On Oct. 4 at 1:14 a.m., man got off an MBTA bus at Arsenal Street and Coolidge Avenue and noticed a man from the bus following him.

"The man punched him from behind on the left side of his face, and then fled toward Miller's Ale House," said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

The victim showed police where the man went, and when officers went to Miller's they found the man sitting at a booth with a man and woman.

"(The couple) said they had no idea who the man was. He just sat down," Lawn said.

The man was intoxicated, and when officers tried to put him into the police cruiser he kicked one officer and spat at another, Lawn said.

Jeffrey W. Demarais, 30, of 56 Coffee St. Apt. 11 in Dorchester, was arrested on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon - a shod foot, Lawn said.
