Man Caught Breaking Into Car in Watertown

Woman spotted the man trying to get into her husband's car on Melendy Avenue.

Watertown Police chased down a man who was spotted trying to break into a car on Melendy Avenue.

On Sept. 2 at 1:37 a.m., woman woke up when a car alarm went off. She looked outside and saw a man in her driveway trying to open the door of her husband's car, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

"She yelled at him and he fled down Melendy Avenue," Lawn said.

Police were called and they located the man and placed him under arrest.

Alexander E. Gerber, 31, of 820 Massachusetts Ave. Apt. 431 in Cambridge, was arrested on a charge of attempted breaking and entering a vehicle at night to commit a felony, Lawn said.
