The man gave an acquaintance a ride to the Arsenal Mall where a man with a gun was waiting.

A man doing a friend a favor found himself in a sticky situation when he was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Arsenal Mall.

On the evening of July 25, a man gave a ride to an acquaintance from Workout World in Waltham to the Arsenal Mall, where the acquaintance said he was meeting someone, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

When they arrived a man was there, and pointed to where they should park.

“He was approached by the man who demanded his cell phone,” Lawn said. “He observed a Hispanic male with a bandana on pointing a black handgun at him.”

The man asked where his wallet was and asked if he had any cash, Lawn said. The driver said he did not have any cash.

“The man said he had a gun and not to mess around,” Lawn said. “They went into the mall and walked up to an ATM when the man saw a security guard and yelled for help. The suspect fled.”

The driver said he went back to his car and discovered that $880 in cash he had in his car was missing, Lawn said.

Police are investigating.
