Quincy Man Caught Stealing iPhone 5 from Best Buy in Watertown

Store security tracked him down after he tried to leave the store with the floor model.

A Quincy man tried to grab a free iPhone 5 from Best Buy in Watertown, but store security chased him down on the street.

On Dec. 9 at 4:06 p.m., a man identified as Fawzi Alfrihat of Quincy, came in and looked at the iPhone 5, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

"Store security observed him looking at the display model, and then saw him walk out of the store with the display phone with the security tag and security wire still attached," Lawn said.

Alfrihat then ran down Arsenal Street, but security caught up to him and grabbed him at the corner of Arsenal and Arlington streets, Lawn said.

When police arrived they discovered Alfrihat also had a number of items of clothing and a Kindle Fire tablet, but did not have receipts to show he had purchased them, Lawn said.

Fawzi Alfrihat, 36, of 56 Spear St. Apt. 414 in Quincy, was arrested on charges of larceny over $250 and two counts of receiving stolen property worth more than $250, Lawn said.
