Shoplifter Caught in Watertown, but Still Makes Off with Merchandise

The suspects tried to steal items from Sally's Beauty Supply in the Watertown Mall.

A store clerk at the Watertown Mall caught two shoplifters and locked them in when they did not give back the merchandise, but one got away with some loot anyway.

On Sept. 2 at 8:48 p.m., Watertown Police were called to Sally's Beauty Supply after two shoplifters had been caught by a store employee, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

Two women had entered the store, one holding a child, and one of them had placed items in a bag.

"The employee confronted them and when they wouldn't give back the items she locked the door," Lawn said.

There was a scuffle when police arrived and one of the suspects threw the items onto the floor.

"When the employee opened the door, one of the suspects picked up an item and fled," Lawn said. "They left in a 2001 Honda CRV."

Police are investigating.
