Two Watertown Firefighters to be Honored For Saving MBTA Officer

Patrick Menton and James Caruso will receive commendations at a ceremony at Faneuil Hall.

Watertown Firefighters Patrick Menton and James Caruso went headfirst into harms way to treat injured MBTA Police Officer Dic Donohue who was bleeding badly after being shot during the shootout in Watertown on April 19.

Their actions, which saved Donohue's life, will be recognized by the MBTA on Sept. 18 at a ceremony at Faneuil Hall in Boston, along with two Watertown Police Officers - Joe Reynolds and Tim Menton (Patrick's brother).

"Your Firefighters, working in conjunction with other first responders, were able to control the bleeding and render life-saving measures. These actions allowed him to be transported to Mount Auburn Hospital where he was ultimately revived," read the letter from the MBTA Police Chief Paul S. MacMillan to Watertown Fire Chief Mario Orangio announcing the honor.

MacMillan will present Caruso and Menton with commendations at a ceremony at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
