Watertown Firefighters Honored for Responding to Fire in Newton

Watertown's Engine 2 joined other out-of-town firefighters to put out a fire on Crafts Street.

On Nov. 7, the Newton Fire Department was busy with a three alarm fire when a second blaze started on Crafts Street. Fire crews from outside of Newton, including firefighters from Watertown, responded, put out the flames and saved a man from the third floor.

Last week, Newton Mayor Setti Warren honored those who helped Newton out that night, and handed out citations to the firefighters who responded that night.

Watertown's Engine 2 and its crew of Lt. Edward Lavache, and firefighters Harry Walsh and Kevin MacDonald arrived on the scene along with an engine from Waltham and found heavy flames.

They put up a ladder to the third floor when they discovered a man trapped by the flames. Lavache stood at the top of one of the ladders to help guide the man out of the window and down to safety.

Watertown Deputy Chief Robert Iannetta and firefighter Brian Martel also assisted with the fire in the C2 command vehicle.
