Watertown Man Confronted in Burglary, Arrested, Police Say

Sudbury Police arrested a Watertown man after they said he was confronted during a home break-in Friday night and caught following a foot pursuit.

Police Chief Scott Nix said in a press release Monday that at 5:14 p.m. on Friday, a Pelham Island Road resident arrived home, interrupting a break-in at the property.

When the man saw the resident, he allegedly fled from the house. Following a 911 call, officer arrived in the area and began searching for the suspect.

Not long after the initial 911 call, another resident called police to report a suspicious man in his back yard. As a result, police focused their search for the man in the area of Guzzlebrook Drive.

Officers eventually located the suspect, prompting a lengthy foot pursuit. Police caught and arrested Shirvin Badalian, 28, of 5 Madison Ave., Watertown.

Badalian was charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, larceny from a building, three counts of wanton destruction of property, receiving stolen property over $250 and resisting arrest.

According to Sudbury Police, several stolen items were recovered along the route that Badalian took while attempting to flee from police.

Officers believe at least one other suspect fled the area when cruisers arrived in the neighborhood. Multiple other police departments are working with Sudbury Police to determine if similar incidents are connected to Badalian.

In Sudbury, police are attempting to determine if the Watertown resident is responsible for another house break-in that occurred on Friday night.

"I would like to thank the residents for their diligence in providing vital information allowing for officers to make the apprehension," said Nix. "As well, I would like to thank the Wayland Police Department for their assistance."
