Watertown Police Catch Shoplifter Who Tried to Evade Arrest by Fleeing on Arsenal Street

The man allegedly spotted taking clothing and putting them in an empty backpack before attempting to leave without paying.

Watertown Police caught a man suspected of shoplifting from the Arsenal Mall as he tried to escape along Arsenal Street on the evening of Nov. 16.

Security from Marshalls spotted a man and woman come into the store, and the man – identified later as Michael Frederick Kane – carried a back pack that appeared to be an empty, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn.

“Security observed Kane place multiple sweaters into the backpack and the female put socks inside,” Lawn said. “They exited the store without paying for them and the alarm went off.”
