Watertown Police Log: Man Arrested for Breaking into Construction Site and More

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Arrests

Aug. 13, 12:42 p.m.: A man was spotted hiding merchandise in his waistband at CVS on Main Street., said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. He was found with $41.26 of items. Brian B. Driscoll, 35, of 210 Palfrey St. in Watertown, was arrested on charges of shoplifting by concealing merchandise.

Aug. 13, 5:38 p.m.: A driver made an illegal left turn onto Watertown Street from Galen Street and the driver said he did not have his license, Lawn. When he was asked his name he gave a name, and police said that person had a suspended license. The man admitted that was not his name, and police found his license was also suspended. Edward Strong, 34, of 17 Garden Cir. Apt. 2 in Waltham, was arrested for giving a false name and driving with a suspended license.

Aug. 14, 5:16 p.m.: A man stole checks and cashed them, and police also found he has a warrant, Lawn said. Richard T. Kiley, 47, 25 Naples Ave. in Woburn, was arrested on charges of larceny by check, larceny under $250, receiving stolen property under $250, forgery of a check, uttering a false check and a warrant from Quincy District Court for driving with a suspended license.

Aug. 14, 7:42 p.m.: Security at Stop & Shop spotted a man take three packs of hamburger, a pack of sausages and rolls, worth $39.02, Lawn said. Murrata K. Kapiga, 21, of 323 Waltham St. in Newton, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting by asportation.

Aug. 15, 10:26 a.m.: Police arrested a man wanted for breaking into a construction site on Pleasant Street early on the morning of Aug. 15, Lawn said. Neighbors heard banging and police set up a perimeter around the site and called in a search dog. They heard someone yelling for help and found a woman with her leg stuck between two pieces of wood. She said she was with a man, and neighbors spotted a man running through backyards. Police obtained a warrant and arrested Joseph P. Elwell, 46, of 46 Chester Ave. Apt. 9 in Waltham on charges of nighttime breaking and entering for a felony. The woman, a 34-year-old from Waltham, will be summonsed to court on charges of nighttime breaking and entering for a felony.

Aug. 16, 4:47 a.m.: A 2005 Ford Focus was found on Main Street with front end damage and police found he driver had an odor of alcohol on his breath, Lawn said. Adam William Widershein, 29, of 179 Naples Road Apt. 3 in Brookline, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

 

Incidents

Aug. 12, 12:46 p.m.: A shoplifter took jewelry and earrings from Claire’s Boutique in the Arsenal Mall and tried to flee, Lawn said. The 56-year-old Boston woman was caught and was trespassed out of the mall. The store will handle internally.

Aug. 13, 9:12 a.m.: Someone keyed the side of a 2003 Acura at Repton Place and left a 12 inch scratch.

Aug. 15, 9:30 a.m.: A Schwinn bicycle was taken from a home on Philip Darch Road, Lawn said.

Aug. 16, 6:25 p.m.: A bicycle left unlocked behind the library and when the owner returned it was cone. It was a small red and blue child’s bike worth $100.

Aug. 18, 5:12 p.m.: A bicycle was taken from a shed behind a house on Phillips Street, Lawn said. The 2001 Giant road bike is worth $1,500.
