Watertown Police Log: Man Faces OUI Charge After Falling Asleep at Wheel and Stores Missing Items

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Arrests

Dec. 16, 7:37 p.m.: Police arrested Piotr J. Sliwinski, 63, of 80 Edenfield Ave. in Watertown, on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Dec. 19, 2:45 a.m.: An officer responded to a report of a man asleep behind the wheel and found a man stopped at the light on Mt. Auburn Street and Kimball Avenue. The officer found the man asleep and knocked on the window, and the driver woke up, nodded and then began driving down Mt. Auburn Street. The officer followed and put on his lights, but the drive continued - at a slow rate - and eventually turned onto Russell Avenue. Finally the driver pulled over and said he didn't realize the officer wanted him to stop. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol. Police arrested Phillipe F. Melos, 28, of 25 Fuller Road in Watertown, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop for police.


Incidents

Dec. 16, 6:39 p.m.: An employee at the NNT Jewelry kiosk in the Arsenal Mall reported items being stolen from his stand. He took a break and when he returned he found the door to his display open and jewelry was moved around. Four watches were missing - two Movados and two Casios - worth a combined $1,600.

Dec. 18, 10:42 p.m.: Logan Furniture reported that some mattresses, mattress covers, lamps and other items had gone missing from one of their trucks. It was not clear whether they were taken from their Watertown store or the one in Avon. The merchandise was worth about $6,500.
