A group of Watertown police officers will run the Boston Marathon in honor of Sean Collier, the MIT police officer killed in last year's manhunt for the marathon bombing suspects.

The officers are raising money for a fund in Collier's memory that will benefit men and woman who want to enroll in the police academy, according to the Boston Herald.

"It is a connection between Sean’s memory and the police community,” Lt. Chris Munger told the Herald.

A Wilmington native, Collier had been an auxiliary police officer in Somerville—he received a posthumous badge from the department.

The marathon will be held Mon., April 21 this year.
