Watertown Residents Getting Help Paying for Damage from Shootout

The Watertown Police, elected officials and the town's insurance company has covered deductibles for those who suffered property damage.

Watertown residents received some help paying for repairs from the April 19 shootout between police and the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects.

The MIAA, a non-profit insurance arm of the Massachusetts Municipal Association, paid nearly $13,000 to residents on Laurel Street to help cover the deductibles from their insurance policies for damages to homes, as well as to repair damages from bullets to two cars, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

The Watertown Police Department worked with elected officials and the town's insurance company to cover any property damage costs from the shootout. A Watertown Police Captain said they wanted to help the residents because the damage was not their fault, and they have been very supportive of the police. He also thanked the insurance company.
