Welding Company Owner Denies Blame in Deadly Back Bay Fire

The late March fire on Beacon Street in Boston killed two firefighters.

The owner of a Malden welding company has responded to a multi-million-dollar lawsuit that alleges his workers started the nine-alarm Back Bay fire that killed two Boston firefighters in late March.

Giuseppe Falcone, 53, of Revere, recently told the Boston Heraldthat neither he nor his workers at D&J Iron Works were doing work behind the neighboring brownstone, at 296 Beacon St., when the fire ignited. This work is believed to have sparked the blaze at the 298 Beacon St. brownstone, which killed Boston Fire Lt. Edward Walsh Jr. and firefighter Michael Kennedy.

Falcone told the Herald that D&J Iron Works “does not exist.” However, past state records show Falcone as the company’s president, according to the Herald.
