GOP Town Committee Endorses Aylward for State Committeeman

The Watertown Republicans threw their support behind Steve Aylward for the position that helps decide the party's priorities and direction in Massachusetts.

The Watertown Republican Town Committee unanimously voted to endorse Steven Aylward for the position of Second Suffolk and Middlesex State Committeeman.

Aylward faces Watertown's , the incumbent, for the position of Republican State Committeeman and the election will take place during the Massachusetts Presidential Primary on March 6.

" has served as Watertown Republican Town Committee Chairman for the past 9 years," the Republican Town Committee wrote in a release. "In that time, the Republican Town Committee has successfully opposed ballot tax initiatives, elected several Republicans to local office, and actively supporting Republican candidates such as Jim Dixon, Gerry Dembrowski and Keith Mercurio, among others."

The committee also voted to endorse Elizabeth Mahoney of Belmont as State Committee Woman, the committee announced. She is the incumbent State Committeewoman, and was elected by caucus in 2009.

The town Republican Town Committee is made up of more than 30 active Republicans from Watertown.

Aylward is a former School Committee member and is a field coordinator for Sen. Scott Brown's reeleciton campaign. Semonian seeks reelection and serves on the campaigns to elect Brown and Mitt Romney for president.

The Second Suffolk and Middlesex District includes Watertown, Belmont and parts of Boston.
