Learn About Watertown's New Trash, Recycling Program on Tuesday Night

Public Works Superintendent Gerry Mee will make a presentation at the Town Council meeting on the new program.

The start of the new trash and recycling program is just around the corner, and Tuesday night you can learn more about the program by heading to Town Hall or tuning into the Town Council meeting.

The new program begins on Aug. 6, and Public Works Superintendent Gerald Mee is first up on the agenda for Tuesday's Town Council meeting, which begins at 7:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers in Town Hall.

The meeting will be broadcast live on Watertown Cable Access television – Channel 99 for Comcast, Channel 13 on RCN – and will be streamed on the Internet at www.wcatv.org.

Residents will soon receive two 64-gallon toters, one for trash and one for recycling. Trash will be collected weekly, and the recycling every other week.

The new recycling program is known as single-stream recycling, where all recyclable items can be placed in the same barrel.

Trash must fit into the toters, though some exceptions will be made including bulky items such as furniture.
