The race is on to fill the congressional seat left vacant by Ed Markey - including the competition to raise money - and Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian of Waltham leads the way.

The Waltham resident pulled in about $308,000 from April to June and ended the period with $290,000 in the bank, according to a report in the Boston Globe. State Sen. Katherine Clark of Melrose raised $228,000 and had $400,000 saved.

State Rep. Carl Sciortino of Medford brought in $203,000 for a total of $270,000, while State Sen. Karen Spilka of Ashland collected $200,000. State Sen. Will Brownsberger, of Belmont, raised only $130,000, but ends the period with $290,000 in available cash, according to the report.
